Greetings. The Greenways Foundation is pleased to announce that it has organized a humble celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the Monon Trail.
Please join us on Saturday, June 24, 2006, from 9:00am through 12:00pm along the Monon Trail at the Depot, the headquarters for the Greenways Foundation and Indy Parks Greenways (900 East 64th Street, in Indianapolis, next to the Monon Trail).
At 12:00pm, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson will be present at the Depot to share with us his thoughts on greenways, in general, and the Monon Trail, in particular.
The Greenways Foundation will be giving away FREE water bottles and selling commemorative t-shirts and posters.
We hope to see you there. Please let me know if you have any questions.

The 9-mile Veterans Memorial rail-trail project involves Lake and Porter
Counties, will connect with Illinois via the Pennsy Greenway, will include a
parallel equestrian trail, and become a critical portion of the future route
of the cross-state and cross-country American Discovery
<http://www.indianatrails.org/ADT.htm> Trail. It would also become the
first trail in the nation dedicated to veterans. Lake County Parks needs
all available support at this meeting, as it is extremely contentious among
some adjacent property owners. Details are below.

Subject: Vet Trail Public Meeting - July 20th
Please note that the official Public Hearing for the acquisition and
construction of the Veterans Memorial Trail from Crown Point to the
Lake/Porter County Line will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 7pm at Crown
Point High School.
This is a planned 9-mile asphalt trail with an adjacent, approx. 7-mile
equestrian path within the corridor. It would be the first equine trail in
the region, and the first primarily rural trail developed in NW Indiana. It
would also be the first trail dedicated in the United States to the honor of
the sacrifices of our Veterans.
Your attendance is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED so as to generate enough public
support for the route. The opposition will be FIERCE, so we need a strong
counter-balance present!
E-mail me back if you have any questions, or call Craig Zandstra at Lake
County Parks at 219-755-3685.
Thanks! Mitch.
