To all - Recently I received the letter below (Dear Mr. Vonnegut) which
explains a possible opportunity to study potential soil enviro damage - OR PROVE NO
DAMAGE - on some trails in Indiana. Damage may be in former RR yards or along
lines. I have since spoke with Susan Harrington and colleagues about this
possible grant.

Three examples of yard damage are the McDowl (sp?) Yard in Bloomington, the
Monon Yard, the "Bubble" at 28th Street, in Indianapolis, and the Nickel Plate
RR Roundhouse in Frankfort. If "your" trail has had a former rr yard in it,
and you want to know more about soil content, let Susan Harrington, or myself
know.

If you are interested in acquiring a line, and want to know that it does not
have soil/ enviro damage (so you can reduce your liability risk, or reduce the
price you will be paying) let Susan or myself know.

Also, if you have quesitons, contact either of us.

Happy Holidays,

Dear Mr. Vonnegut,

The Indiana Brownfields Program is in the process of applying to U.S. EPA for
an assessment grant to be used specifically for brownfield sites that will be
reused for parks and trails (a brownfield is a property where redevelopment
is complicated due to actual or potential environmental contamination).

With your knowledge of existing and planned trails in Indiana, we thought
that your organization might be interested in providing input for this project,
both in the application stage and in the implementation stage if the grant is
awarded.  This would not involve any commitment of resources on your part; we
would just ask you to provide information, share expertise, and possibly help
to spread the word about the grant.

The EPA proposal asks for a list of cooperative partners for the project, so
if you do agree to participate, someone from EPA will likely call you to
confirm your participation. If you think that you may be interested, please see
attached for a brief summary of the proposal and let me know what you think.
Also, more information about our program can be found at our interim web site:
www.brownfields.in.gov.

Thank you,

Susan Harrington
