Come support our trails in East Central Indiana!
Saturday, Sept 30, Healthy Communities of Henry County is hosting our annual
Stride and Ride to raise money for bike trails in Henry County. You don't
need to "stride". That's only for the people who don't know the pleasure of
two wheels. We start at beautiful Westwood Park (west of New Castle) with a
7:30 registration for bikers. You can bike 6, 16, 30 or 62 miles with full
SAG support, home-made cookies, and excellent maps. Highlights of the rides
include the Hoosier Gym (where the sports classic, Hoosiers was filmed), the
Spiceland Park, a Tall Grass Prairie and the Mt Lawn Speedway. After the
ride you can enjoy the Raintree Trails Festival with music, food, arts and
crafts. If you get back to the park by 10:00 you can watch the kite flying
contest. At 12:00 we have the 15k trail run for the truly daring and as soon
as they take off, we have a 1 mile walk for the more sedate among us. AT
2:30 we have a raffle drawing for an awesome Trek Comfort Bike from BGI.
All of the money will go to help support our dream of trails for Henry
County. We hope someday to connect with the Cardinal Greenway as it treks
from Richmond to Muncie. We plan to be a part of the National Road Heritage
Trail along 40 from Illinois to Ohio. We have dreams of trails along the Big
Blue River and up to Honeycreek to Anderson. And someday we hope to invite
you to bike with us on the Woollybear Trail, famous for its fuzzy wildlife
and weather predicting capabilities.
If you have any questions you can call me at 765-524-1706, but you may need
to let it ring a while since I'll likely be out on my bicycle.
