National Road Heritage Trail Connects Communities, State
The National Road Heritage Trail is a proposed cross-state greenway that is expected to span more than 150 miles, 30 communities and years of Indiana history. Utilizing several local trails already developed across the state, a scenic route for pedestrians, bicyclists and horseback riders will be formed away from motorized traffic. Greg Midgley, president of the National Road Heritage Trail, Inc., said, "This trail is to provide an alternate connection between the 30 communities for non-motorized traffic, create economic development opportunities and increase tourism. We hope to have the initiative completed by Indiana's bicentennial, which is 2016."
