[IndianaTrails] U.S. 41 bridge reconstruction?

What is the status of the U.S. 41 bridge reconstruction project over the
Little Calumet River in Highland, Indiana (Lake County)?

This issue is of utmost importance as the two halves of the Erie
Lackawanna Trail remain unconnected pending the progress of this
project. Intrepid cyclists and pedestrians who wish to continue on the
trail are forced to ride/walk amongst heavy, 50mph motorized traffic to
get to the other half of the trail.

This month marks the 9th anniversary of my return to cycling for its
health, environmental, and economic benefits and also the 9th
anniversary of not being able to traverse the Erie Lackawanna Trail
safely from end to end because of the lack of progress on this bridge.

Certainly something can be done in the interim, even a temporary
pedestrian bridge to cross the river and a short amount of paving
(approx. 1/4 mile) on each side to complete the connection with the
existing trail halves.

Sincerely,
