It's State Fair Time Again! August 6th -
17th
In 2007, the Greenways Foundation,
with the help of many avid trails volunteers, told countless visitors
to he Indiana State Fair about the progress that had been made all
over Indiana in the development of trails and greenways. And we asked
for their support of linear parks in their communities. The Foundation
has agreed to help get the word out again this year by providing and
manning the same two booths, one in the Department of Natural
Resources Building, the other at the InShape Indiana pavilion.
The message of progress we have to
provide to Hoosiers from all over the State this year will be even
more exciting than last. We will be able to talk about the nearly 150
miles of abandoned rail line that has been purchased since the last
Fair. And more importantly, we will be able to tell people about the
twenty-eight projects that have recently been funded by DNR grants.
Because of these developments there is a real sense of progress and
anticipation that you can help impart to Hoosier citizens who are
curious about what trails and greenways will mean to their town, city
or county.
Just like last year, we need
knowledgeable, enthusiastic trails and greenways supporters to staff
the booths. For volunteering for one or more four-hour shifts, you get
free admission to the Fair. Plus, you get a shirt. First-time
volunteers will receive a Greenways Foundation golf shirt. For those
who volunteered last year, you get a commemorative Greenways
Foundation Monon Anniversary t-shirt. You also get the satisfaction of
helping your fellow citizens understand the wonderful benefits of
Hoosiers on the Move, the State's trails and greenways plan.
Please sign up as a volunteer today.? There are
several days and shifts to choose from. Provide all the information on
the form, including your shirt size. We will mail your free admission
ticket to you and have your shirt waiting for you at the booth. Along
with your ticket, we will send you a brief outline of how to present
Hoosiers On The Move and the wonderful progress that has been made
this year.

Thanks
for being an important?part of the trails movement in
Indiana!

Is anyone driving to Little Rock for the Nov 15-18th trails symposium and
has room for one passenger or who would like to ride with someone and share
the cost? Is any woman looking for a roommate during the meeting?
One of our board members wants to go but needs to cut the cost.

Summer's end is near. Our canal successes in the last season are evident.
Fall and winter will bring us even more as we continue the assembly of our
"DREAM" (a replica canal boat and its storage space--the 1850s looking
warehouse) shown in the birdseye view.
Check out the attached CURRENTS newsletter file for details. I'm off in two
weeks to the World Canals Conference in Ontario and to visit the company in
Albany, NY that will be building our aluminum hulled canal boat. DAN
