Shovel-Ready Indiana Trail Projects Needed For Stimulus Package

Balance Sought For Motorized Projects


A federal economic stimulus package purported to be in the $700 billion
range is expected to be a major priority for the incoming administration and
members of Congress next month.  It is widely believed that the package will
focus on the building of infrastructure, including transportation.
Organizations such as the Greenways Foundation and Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy have been fighting for years to keep a fair balance in
transportation funding between motorized and non-motorized facilities,
specifically for trails and greenways.

On behalf of Indiana and other states, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is
now collecting a list of shovel-ready trail projects to submit to the
architects of this recovery package.  These must be of significant length
and scope and have all land acquisition and other legal hurdles cleared, so
that construction work may begin immediately should funding be made
available.

The bad news is, the deadline for submission is Monday, December 15th at 12
noon.  The good news is, it takes only a few minutes per project to fill out
the application.  Please use this
