Hello,
In case you find that your summer is not busy enough, here are some opportunites for fun and learning. Pay special attention to the grant application deadlines too.
Funding
Transportation Enhancements (TE) Grant application are now being accepted by the Indiana Dept of Transportation and the deadline is August 21st. This year has $20 million in federal funds available. Tiger Grants - Here is a link to the Federal Highway Administration's recently announced TIGER Grants in the federal register - http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-14262.pdf. <http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-14262.pdf.> TIGER stands for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.
There is $1.5 billion of federal stimulus funding available. Projects requests are expected to be between $20 million and $300 million, however project requests of less than $20 million will be considered. The application deadline is September 15, 2009. Projects that are eligible include, but are not limited to: highways, bridges, other public transportation under chapter 53 of title 49 U.S. Code(including bicycle facilities), transit, and port infrastructure. Priority will be given to projects that can be completed by February 17, 2012. No matching funds are required, however priority will be given to projects for which federal funding is required to complete an overall financing package that includes non-federal sources of funds.
Workshops/training/conferences
The Indiana Parks and Recreation Association has workshops scheduled for this summer that cover a wide range of topics.
The Extreme Sports Day workshop is August 4th in Portage, IN.
Jim Schneider is the featured speaker at the annual Trail Maintenance Workshop on September 15th in Marion, IN.

The Mid America Trail and Greenways Conference is October 25-28 in Kalamazoo Michigan. The theme for the 4th edition of this 8-state regional trail summit is "Trails and Greenways, fun... but so much more!"

Mark your calendar for the 2010 Indiana River Rally. It will take place at McCormicks Creek State Park on June 18-20. The Rally will have a recreational theme this time and will be in a wonderful outdoor setting. More details in the near future.
Events
The 24th annual Indiana Paddlers Rendezvous (IPR) will be July 31st - Aug 2nd on Wildcat Creek just east of Lafayette at Wildcat Park. The IPR has proven to be one of the overall best paddling events in Indiana. If you've never attended, rest assured it is worth your time. Come prepared to enjoy one of the nicest small streams in Indiana, to relax with old Paddling buddies, and to make new friends. The Indiana Trails Advisory Board (TAB) will have its next meeting on September 3rd at Dunes State Park. The board has been moving the summer meetings to different locations throughout the state to see and enjoy projects that have been funded with Recreational Trails Program (RTP) funding. The meetings start at 3:00 PM, but please join us before the meeting for tours of hiking and water trails.
At the end of the year, TAB will have open positions that need to be filled. If you are interested in serving, please see the website for a listing of the open positions this year.

For Equestrians, the Indiana Trail Riders Association Fall Ride will be September 18 - 20, 2009 at Midwest Trail Rides in Norman, IN. Make sure to get your reservations in early. You don't want to miss all the fun!

The first Hoosier Outdoor Experience will September 25-27 at the 1700 acre Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. This free event is presented by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Natural Resources Foundation and is designed to let people experience all the recreational activities that Indiana has to offer.

The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Brown County Breakdown - HMBA Epic Ride on October 11, 2009. Come support the HMBA for our biggest fundraising event, and enjoy an epic ride on beautiful trails within one of the largest and best-preserved contiguous hardwood forests in the Midwest. The ride begins and ends at beautiful Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana. We have a full weekend of events planned, so please join us on Saturday, October 10, 2009 as well.
