From mbarloga at yahoo.com Thu May 7 22:08:03 2009 From: mbarloga at yahoo.com (Mitch Barloga) Date: Thu, 7 May 2009 22:08:03 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [IndianaTrails] Burnham Plan Century - Make No Small Rides! Message-ID: <185956.64073.qm@web82204.mail.mud.yahoo.com> In recognition of the centennial anniversary of Daniel Burnham's landmark 1909 Plan of Chicago,?the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission proudly annouces the "Burnham Plan Century - Make No Small Rides".? In addition to covering NW Indiana, the ride will now include another 55 miles in NE Illinois, bringing the total amount to 100 miles.? The ride will take place once again on National Trails Day - June 6th - and start at 9am in Lake Forest, IL, and conclude in Michigan City by 7 or 8pm.? There will be a mid-point stop at Lansing, where I plan to join (I might do the whole thing, but my butt might not be too happy). Please note, this will be a CASUAL ride - averaging 12mph.? It will aim to hit as many trails as possible along the route - 10 in all.? This includes the entire Chicago Lakefront Trail.? As for "sag" stops and all - there will be NONE.? This is truly a "come as you are, leave as you wish" ride.? We MIGHT have refreshments in Lansing, but no promises.? What will be produced shortly is a cue sheet of where the ride will be at approximate times.? At these points folks can get on or leave as they please. Please check in at the official website for the ride:? http://burnhamplan100.uchicago.edu/events/id/956 While there check out the rest of the website to learn more about all the activities to celebrate the Burnham Plan.? You may also write me back if you have any questions that the website does not address. I kindly ask you to "register" for the event by visiting regionride at gmail.com, and letting me know how much of the route you plan to ride.? It's totally free...just would like an idea on numbers. Because one day was not enough for all the trails events in the state of Indiana, Governor Mitch Daniels has proclaimed June 6-12, 2009 as Indiana Trails Week! A copy of the signed proclamation can be found on the Division of Outdoor Recreation's webpage http://www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/. The American Hiking Society's (AHS) website, www.americanhiking.org, has loads of information about National Trails Day, including how to plan, register, or find a local event. By registering with the AHS, you'll boost attendance by getting your event local and national recognition. Let's make Indiana a leader in the Midwest on National Trails Day. Remember, your trails day event can take place on other dates within a week or two of June 6th.. Hope to see lots of events planned for Indiana!
