From dbrier at dnr.IN.gov Thu Apr 1 11:58:47 2010 From: dbrier at dnr.IN.gov (Brier, Dale) Date: Thu, 1 Apr 2010 14:58:47 -0400 Subject: [IndianaTrails] Trail Grants, Awards, and Events Message-ID: <5B88A0889A428848B85F117828B4081917D0013D30@IOTMVSP03VW.shared.state.in.us> Warm weather is here and people are getting back out on the trails. It seems we went straight from winter to summer. I'd like to pass on some important trail information before everyone gets busy with summer projects. Recreational Trails Program (RTP) Grants are due back to the Division of Outdoor Recreation by May 1st. RTP is a matching assistance program that provides funding for the acquisition and/or development of multi-use recreational trail projects. Both motorized and non-motorized projects may qualify for assistance. The assistance program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). For more information about Indiana's program, visit http://www.in.gov/dnr/outdoor/4101.htm While on the subject of RTP grants, I would like to encourage people to nominate Indiana's finest RTP trail projects for The Coalition for Recreational Trails (CRT) Annual Achievement Awards in recognition of the outstanding use of Recreational Trails Program (RTP) funds. The award winners are recognized at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. during the annual celebration for Great Outdoors Week. See www.americantrails.org/awards/CRTawards.html#awards for award descriptions and prior awards. The 2010 deadline is April 16, 2010. American Trails also recognizes trail projects and people every two years at the American Trails National Symposium. Nominations are due by June 30th, 2010. Indiana has some great trails and many great volunteers; we would love to see them recognized. For more information visit their website http://www.americantrails.org/2010/awards.html National Trails Day (NTD) is fast approaching. June 5th, 2010 the nation will celebrate and enjoy trails. Indiana has had a history of getting numerous trail events listed on the American Hiking Society webpage. It's not too late to get your event listed, just click on http://www.americanhiking.org/NTD.aspx to register your 2010 NTD event. I would like to challenge all the trail groups and managing entities to get at least 15 events listed. Enjoy this wonderful weather and see you on the trail.
